Don't worry about 180. I repeat: DON'T WORRY ABOUT 180! That number is (supposedly) based on what elites do, and even for them it is approximate and not universal. Many "recreational" runners (competitive or not) will do anything from 160 to maybe 190 or so. Usually on routine daily workouts you'll be closer to 160. Speed work and races will usually find you closer to 180. It is more important to run at a cadence which is consistent and comfortable for you.
